Would you like to be sought after by some of the region’s largest employers?
Marine Engineering and Design will introduce students to the Naval/Commercial Marine Engineering and Design Industry and prepare them for future career opportunities in this exciting field. Topics will include the differences between naval and commercial drafting and design formats and standards, types of drawings, and an introduction to the primary design disciplines of the Marine Industry.

Students should
• Have an art, mathematics, and or drafting background
• Have a desire to create, problem solve, build models, and puzzle solve
• Be creative, and imaginative
• Are inquisitive about how and why things work
• Have a strong work ethic
• Provide documentation of successfully completing CADD I at the ATC or Basic Technical Drawing at their home high school
Career possibilities (entry-level and with additional education)
• Jr. Drafter (High school diploma)
• Jr. Designer (Associate of Applied Science Degree)
• Engineer (Bachelor’s of Science)
• Architect (Bachelor’s of Science)
Related college programs
• Potentially earn college credits with Tidewater Community College, Associate of Applied Science Degree.
Assists in preparing students for successfully obtaining college degrees in the disciplines of engineering and architecture.
