A+ COMPUTER REPAIR (AT 8685)
VBCPS: 3 credits, 1 year, Grades 10-12; TCC: 8 credits

Can you recognize and solve the most common technical problems associated with personal computers (PCs)? Gain the skills to build and configure PCs, and learn to troubleshoot associated hardware and software while learning to configure and maintain a basic client server network. Experience this and more as you prepare for the A+ certification exams offered by CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association).

Software:[back to top]  DOS, lab experiments in Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and 98, Windows 2000 Professional, NT and XP, some Windows Server, Windows.NET Server 2003,and Linux Red Hat 8 with Samba

Hardware/Equipment: [back to top] Multi-configuration computer trainer (Pentium IV, III and/or AMD Athlon XP), switches, hubs, routers, printers, digital multi-meters, basic electronic tools (wire strippers), network cabling, tools and testers, memory tester, AC/DC power supply, soldering irons, and electronic training station.

Students who:

Have the ability and are motivated to read technical manuals and follow directions; paying attention, dedication, and working hard is a must.

Enjoy problem solving and utilizing basic math; some math is required for certain situations.

Are experienced in Windows, and computer software; having this will make learning easier.

Desire to learn about troubleshooting software/hardware on a network; and being able to build/repair computers. 

Have a B average or better in a memory intensive course, such as:  Algebra I, Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography, and Earth Science. Binary and hexadecimal code will be taught.
