Course description
Can you recognize and solve the most common technical problems associated with personal computers(PCs)?

Would you like to build the Ultimate Gaming Machine and test it on a network that you set up in class?
Develop the skills to build and repair custom PCs for gaming, multimedia, home theater, workstation, server, and web surfing applications. Setup and secure wireless home networks. Experience this and more as you prepare for the A+ certification exams offered by CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association).

 

Students should
Have an interest and desire to learn about troubleshooting software/hardware.
Enjoy problem solving and be capable of applying basic math skills during the troubleshooting process.

Have a B average or better in a memory intensive course, such as:  Algebra I, Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography, and Earth Science. Binary and hexadecimal code will be taught.
Have a strong work ethic.

Career possibilities (entry level and with additional education)
Computer Technician (High school diploma)
Associate (AS or AAS) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.

Potential college credit with Tidewater Community College when applied towards an Associate of Applied Science degree.
